Trend guru Li Edelkoort has made some pretty powerful comments about consumption and coronavirus. She points out that if the virus causes a global recession of such magnitude that maybe it’s time to reset our values.
This ‘quarantine of consumption’, she wonders, could teach people to be “happy just with a simple dress, rediscovering old favourites we own, reading a forgotten book and cooking up a storm to make life beautiful”. Not to mention the two months without production in China has completely cleared the skies of pollution and allowed people to breathe again.
She maintains that it could be a real wake-up call to the way we live and the effect it has one where we live, where buying, flaunting, discarding and upgrading have been standard practice for 35 years.
